Working with Buro Happold’s Bridge team we developed the design for a simple bow-string arch using a limited palette of materials.
Corten steel was chosen for the main structure to reflect the industrial heritage of the area. Screens of corten were also proposed to prevent access to the areas below the approach ramps whilst maintaining the openings needed for flood alleviation. These vertical slats continue over the textured concrete abutments, integrating with a wired system for climbing plants.
The green of the embankments will encroach onto the sides of the new bridge, subtly transitioning to the industrial corten screen and bow-string arch.
The project will complete on-site in December 2024.
